She appeared in commercials in several television pilots, and on the daytime soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful in 1999. Bruckner was only 15 years old when she landed her first major role as a teenage girl for the film Blue Car (2002). The film Bruckner performed the role of a young high-school student having an illicit affair with David Strathairn. Roger Ebert said that Bruckner was able to handle the complex script confidently. The role of Bruckner was nominated at the Independent Spirit Awards for "Best Female Lead". Her family consisted of two brothers and one sibling. Her first language was Hungarian which she frequently learned the language in order to be proficient. Bruckner was born in Hollywood California to a Hungarian father and the Russian mother, who later divorced. Her paternal grandfather is German. In Hungary, her parents first met, and later immigrated into America in 1984 through an asylum settlement in Italy. Her siblings are three sisters and a brother.
